The Cardiovascular System
We hear a lot about cardiovascular health in the age of information and it can feel overwhelming at times. We are passionate about empowerment here at Tease Tea and so before I dive into giving you some fascinating tidbits, we’re going to start by answering an important question:
What, exactly, is the Cardiovascular System?
The cardiovascular system is another term for the circulatory system, consisting of the heart, blood vessels and blood itself. The circulatory system delivers oxygen, nutrients and hormones to cells, and removes metabolic wastes.
One of it’s most vital functions is to deliver blood to and from your heart.
The system is comprised of three independent systems that work closely together:
-The Heart
-The Lungs, and
-The arteries, veins, coronary and portal vessels
As you can imagine, it’s a pretty complex system, but many of it’s functions appear to be impacted and supported by something called flavonoids, which are a type of molecule.
Flavonoids are found abundantly in plants, fruits and vegetables and act as important antioxidants. While there is still research to be done, extensive studies have shown that flavonoid consumption could benefit cardiovascular health in many ways, namely by:
-Lowering Blood Pressure
-Reducing Plaque Buildup in the Arteries
-Reducing the risk of Atherosclerosis
-Lowering Blood Cholesterol
-Reducing Inflammation
-Protecting against oxidant induced damage, which can lead to tissue damage
If you’re a bit of a science geek, like me, I encourage you to read some of these fascinating studies here, here, and here.
Research shows higher amounts of these flavonoids in green tea. Research also demonstrates less susceptibility to heart attack and stroke in regular green tea drinkers. Although black tea does contain flavonoids, the oxidization process that black tea goes through ends up degrading some of the flavonoids, leaving it with a lower concentration.
It isn’t only flavonoids that have shown promise in cardiovascular health. Another key player in the tea world that has demonstrated potential are polyphenols. Polyphenols are phytonutrients found in plants as well and, you guessed it, can be found in many teas.
You’ve likely heard that apples, red wine and dark chocolate could all help keep your heart healthy. This is because they are all rich with polyphenols. Other polyphenol-rich plants you may be familiar with are hibiscus, lemongrass, green and black tea and lavender.
While there is still research to be done, studies have found positive correlations between polyphenol intake and cardiovascular health. It’s important to note that correlation does not imply causation, however, and so findings are not conclusive.
If you’re a tea drinker, than you know not all teas are created equally, and our Triple Teatox blends are no exception (except that they are exceptional, according to our customers!).
If you’re looking to increase the amount of antioxidants and phytonutrients you consume on the daily and create lasting habits to amplify your wellness routine, our teatox blends might be for you.
Taking research into consideration, both our Daytime and Nighttime blends contain flavonoid-and-polyphenol-rich ingredients like Yerba Mate, lemongrass, apple and hibiscus. You can read a bit more about the benefits of these ingredients here.
But more than that, our two Triple Teatox blends were designed to empower you to make intentional decisions each day. They also include a goal setting checklist and program guide to help keep you on track.
Whichever tea(s) you choose to implement into your wellness routine, they should make you feel good and taste great!
