Ottawa, ON – Tease Tea highlights Plan International / Because I am a Girl as February's Chari'tea focus
Each month Tease Tea partners with a local women’s group to empower, support, and celebrate their important community work. A percentage of all sales go to supporting their work and efforts.
In the developing world, millions of girls are denied their basic human rights, simply because they’re girls. In fact, girls in the poorest regions of the world are among the most disadvantaged people on the planet. They are more likely to live in poverty, more likely to be denied access to education, and more likely to be malnourished.
And yet, studies show that when you invest in girls, the whole world benefits. If a girl has enough to eat, a safe environment, and an education, she’ll work to raise the standard of living for herself, her family and her community. And in time, she can even strengthen the economy of her entire country.
Plan International is a global movement for change, mobilizing millions of people around the world to support social justice for children in developing countries.
Founded in 1937, they are one of the oldest and largest international development organizations, working in partnership with millions of people around the world to end global poverty. Not for profit, independent and inclusive of all faiths and cultures, we have only one agenda: to improve the lives of children.
Their vision is of a world in which all children realize their full potential in societies that respect people's rights and dignity.
Plan International aims to achieve lasting improvements in the quality of life of children, families and communities in developing countries. They do this through a process of collaboration that unites people across cultures, adding meaning and value to their lives.
One of their valued projects includes Because I am a Girl.
Each year, 15 million girls under 18 will be married; that's nearly 1 girl every 2 seconds. Girls are twice as likely to suffer from malnutrition as boys. And globally, more than 62 million girls are not attending either primary or secondary school.
Investing in girls is key to eliminating poverty and creating a safer, brighter future for everyone. When girls are educated, healthy, safe from violence, and empowered, they pull themselves, their children and their communities out of poverty.
Girls in the developing world face unique barriers that keep them from achieving their full potential. Learn more about these barriers and about what Plan International is doing to create a brighter future for girls, boys, men and women everywhere.
